Enabling children to flourish and succeed

P.S.H.E.

At Frisby, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic education) is all about giving children the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to lead happy, healthy and safe lives.

What is our aim?

We want every child to:

  • Feel safe and cared for – learning how to keep themselves and others safe.
  • Build positive relationships – understanding friendship, respect and kindness.
  • Develop resilience and confidence – so they can cope with challenges and look after their mental health.
  • Understand diversity and responsibility – celebrating differences and learning about rights and responsibilities in modern Britain.

How do we teach PSHE?

We follow the Coram SCARF programme, which stands for Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship. This is taught through six themes across the year:

  1. Me and My Relationships
  2. Valuing Difference
  3. Keeping Safe
  4. Rights and Responsibilities
  5. Being My Best
  6. Growing and Changing

Lessons are fun and interactive, using stories, games, role-play and discussion. They are age-appropriate and build year-on-year from Reception to Year 6.

Beyond the classroom

PSHE is part of everyday school life. We use:

  • Assemblies/themed weeks (e.g., Anti-Bullying, Mental Health Awareness)
  • Wellbeing activities like mindfulness and yoga
  • School Council and community projects to develop responsibility and leadership
  • Workshops and trips that build confidence and teamwork

What difference does it make?

Children leave our school with:

  • Strong social and emotional skills
  • Respect for themselves and others
  • Strategies to stay safe and healthy
  • Confidence to face challenges and succeed
